The aim of this project is to compare physical, mechanical, chemical and thermal properties of NR/SBR alloy cured by sulfur and electron beam radiation . Physical and mechanical properties; tensile strength , Elogation to break , tear strength , hardness , abrasion , resiliance, compression set, and chemical properties , chemical resistance , swelling percentage; thermal properties, ageing; in two curing systems were studied and compared. Factorial design has been used in sulfur curing system. main effects and interaction effects of curing factors on different properties were determined and an appropriate model for predicting properties were developed. Then curing carried by electron beam and effects of dose rate up 400 kGy on physical, mechanical, chemical and thermal properties were studied. After increasing electron beam dose, to 300kGy, properties were improved and at 400kGy, properties such as tensile strength before and after ageing ,chemical resistance and resiliance did not change but abrasion resistance increased. This shows that optimom doses for curing this blend is 300kGy. A comparision shows that sulfur cured sampels have better properties and this is related to high unsaturation of NR/SBR blend and its ability to be sulfur cured.
