In this research work, after introduction of thermocouple and explaining its production procedure, particularly welding processes, the procedure of design and manufacturing of an automatic machine for thermocouple assembly was studied. This machine will be applied in automation of TIG welding process for joining “Constantan Wire” to “Forming” which together constitute the head of type T thermocouple. Several surveys to Isfahan Valve Co. were carried out in order to establish this research work. The automated machine was manufactured as an initial prototype followed by making final prototype using the results from the initial machine. Manufacturing and optimization of vibratory bowl feeder according to theoretical computations as well as manufacturing a parts selector that helps transfer of “Forming Parts” according to their orientation, were important outcomes of this project. Furthermore design and manufacturing of a high precision indexing system was another result of this thesis. Manufacturing of these parts besides manufacturing of a wire feeder for high precision feeding of “Constantan Wire” provide a cost effective approach for automation of thermocouple production. The completion and test run procedure of the machine would be proceeded by applying some optimizations in welding process, “Forming” delivery system and considering suggestions in the final chapter of this dissertation.
