Coliform removal not only produces high quality water but also destroys the probability of pollution distribution in surrounding environment. In the water and wastewater treatment industry, disinfection is one of the most important processes in removing coliforms in wastewater treatment plants. Many disinfectants are used in disinfection process including chemical disinfectants. In recent years because of problems associated with usage of these chemical disinfectants including cost and health related issues, there has been comsiderable interest in the development and resolving these issues. These interests can be categorized into two justify; TEXT-INDENT: 0.2in; MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" In this study, ability of Moringa Peregrina as a disinfectant was evaluated, in order to optimize the removal efficiency, four factors including pH, Moringa peregrina dosage, initial coliforms and mixing velocity were investigated and experiments were carried out in batch reactors. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used. Results showed that coliforms removal efficiency with Moringa peregrine seeds was 99.99%. ANOVA showed that all of experimental factors were insignificant. Interaction analyses were carried out to investigate the relative importance of different interactions between involved factors in this sample and it was concluded that there is no interaction in this sample. The results also showd that coliforms removal efficiency is severly depended on initial coliform. The range of removal efficiency is very high due to range of initial coliform. The range was change from 7% in low level initial coliform to 99.99998% in high level initial coliform. Overall, this study showed that Moringa Peregrina is capable of removimg coliforms and can be used as a cheap alternative for high cost common disinfectants in wastewater treatment.
