In recent years, an enormous effort has been devoted to the synthesis, characterization and application of Schiff base ligand prepared by the condensation of aldehydes/ ketons and diamines. Schiff base ligand and their transition metal complexes have found applications as antitumor and antivirus compound, as catalysis or oxygen carriers, and in the field of nonlinear optics. The properties of these compounds can be modified by changing the structure of the Schiff base ligands. On this basis, in this thesis a new ligand, H 2 naphtabza, and its metal complexes: (1) [Ni II (salabza)] (4) [Mn III (salabza)]N 3 (2) [Ni II (naphtabza)] (5) [Mn III (naphtabza)]N 3 (3) [Cu II (salabza)] were synthesized, characterized and studied. Complexes 1-5 were synthesized in good yield and characterized via FT-IR, UV-Vis and CHN analysis. The structure of (1) was determined by X-ray diffraction, and the correlation between the structure and the spectroscopic properties were investigated. The electrochemical properties of the compounds were studied using cyclic voltammetery and a good correlation was found between the spectral and electrochemical properties of these complexes.
