The cadmium(II) , nickel (II) , zinc (II) , cobalt (II) and copper(II) complexes with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug , indomethacin (Hindo), in the presence of thiocyanate ligand (SCN ? ), have been synthesized and characterized. The complexes K 2 [Cd(indo) 2 (SCN)] 2 , K[Ni(indo) 2 (SCN)], K[Zn(indo) 2 (SCN)] , K[Co(indo) 2 (SCN)] and K 2 [Cu(indo) 2 (SCN)] 2 where indo is ionic form of indomethacin have been structurally characterized by means of vibrational spectroscopy. The cadmium complex is in dimeric form that has been structurally characterize by X-Ray cristalography. Complex K 2 [Cd(indo) 2 (SCN)] 2 has been investigated for its antibacterial and anticancer activitie and has appeared more effective than Cisplatin drug against two different types of cancer cells , MCF -7 and T-24 , at the same in-vitro conditions . K 2 [Cd(indo) 2 (SCN)] 2 complex is more effective than free indomethacin ligand in antioxidant activity . This complex has stronger interaction with DNA and BSA than free indomethacin ligand.
