The most important factors in burning synthetic textile materials are due to formation of melted liquids and flames. Burning process is one of the disadvantages of nylon textiles, so that nylon textiles flaming causes extraordinary hot melt drips (220-530 °C) and terribly damage body tissues. Therefore, in this study we are trying to decrease nylon textiles flammability to meet the following needs: 1) Char formation instead of melt drip formation during burning 2) Reduction of burning rate and flame spread Nanocomposites of polymer-clay are considered as fire retardants, so scientists attention has been focused on them. This study provides some helpful information about how to prepare nanoclay and using it in textile finishing in order to increase fire resistance of nylon 6 (polyamide 6). On the other hand, different kinds of finishing processes were carried out to improve other qualities of fabrics such as: washing fastness, abrasion fastness, flexural rigidity and heat yellowness. Investigations show that moisture absorption of nanoclay is much more than that of nylon 6. Moreover, using 3.5% nanoclay on nylon 6 knitted fabrics, not only increases heat resistance but also improves antibacterial property up to 75%.
