Salinity is one of the important abiotic stresses limiting plant growth and yield. Different methods are applied to manage the soil salinity problems for plant growth, although super absorbent did not receive enough attention in this regardt. it seems super absorbents by maintaining soil moisture, may prevent the sharp increase in salt concentration in the soil solution and eliminate the osmotic tensions for the plants. Two experiments were design for the study. In the first experiment the effects of four levels of super absorbent polymer as: 0.0, 0.2, 0.5, and 1.0% and 5 soil salinity levels as equilibrated with: tap water as control and solutions with electrical conductivities of 3.0, 10.0, 30.0 and 60 dS/m on soil water retention were examined. The experiment was carried out with three replications in a completely randomized design. The results showed that the effect of super absorbent and the interactions of super absorbent and soil salinity on soil water retention capacity at filed capacity and saturation were statistically significant. In the second experiment the eliminating effects of super absorbent on the soil salinity limitations for performance of two wheat varieties were evaluated. The results showed that the effects of super absorbent on shoot length, shoot wet and dry weight, root area, specific leaf area, concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and nitrogen in plants were statistically significant. Also the interactions of super adsorbent and salinity on the shoot length, shoot wet and dry weight, root and leaf area, calcium and nitrogen concentrations of plants were statistically significant. In general it could be concluded that the use of super absorbent largely limited the soil salinity effects and improved the test plants performance. Keywords : Super absorbent, Salinity, manage
