For the world growing population, one of the challenges ahead is the increasing need for food production. Considering the soil salinity problems and limitation of high quality and non-saline water resources to cope with these problems in arid and semiarid regions, management practices to use saline water with control on the negative effects of salinity on plant production should be investigated. Different studies showed the advantages of split root system in this regard, but there is not much information about split nutrient solution system and its effects on plant responses to salinity. This research was conducted in 2019 using a complete randomized block design with the aim of investigating the effects of split nutrient solution on plant resposes facing salinity steresses (i.e. 3 and 5 dS m -1 of nutrient solution) with using Nutrient Film Technique. Cherry tomato ( Lycopersicon esculentum var. Cerasiforme) was selected as the test plant. At each salinity level, in split nutrient solution treatments, the root was divided in two parts, in one part the nutrient solution A containing calcium salts and iron and in the other part the nutrient solution B containing the other nutrient compounds were applied. To investigate the effects of split system, treatments with no splitting-root and -nutrient solution were also included in the experiment. The results showed that split nutrient solution generally reduced the negative effects of salinity even at high salinity levels on cherry tomato yield parameters. The split nutrient solution reduced ion leakage of leaf and root cells, chlorophyll, Ca concentration in shoot and root receiving solution B and increased Mg concentration in shoot and root part A, K concentration in shoot and root part B, fresh and dry weights of shoot and root, shoot height, number of flowers and fruits. According to the results of this study, in general, applying salinity and split nutrient solution induced positive effects on growth and yield of cherry tomato.
