The Capoetaaculeata is native to the Middle East and little is known about this species in Iranian waters. Some biological characteristics of this species were examined in 377 specimens collected monthly from the Gizehrud River of NourabadLorestan province during May 2014 to May 2015. The maximum age of the specimens, based on scale reading, was 6+ years for females and males. The most frequent age groups were 4+ in males and females. Fork length ranged from 12.2 to 20.8 cm (17.4±1.2SD) and weight ranged between 32–188 g (93.6±21.8SD). The length-weight relationship was described as W= 0.0161FL3.012, (r2=0.82) for males and as W= 0.0248FL2.87, (r2=0.79) for females. This relationship showed that the growth was isometric for both sexes. The von Bertalanffy growth model was estimated as Lt= 20.9[1-e -0.57(t+0.2)] and Lt= 20.3[1-e -0.56(t-0.8)] for males and females, respectively. The growth performance index was estimated as 5.4 and 5.5 for males and females, respectively, indicating a similar growth rate for males and females. Sex ratio was 1 male: 2.13 females. Based on macroscopic gonad observation, maturation cycle consisted of four stages; developing, spawning, regressing and regeneration phases. The GSI index indicated that reproduction of the C. aculeata in the Gizehrood occurred between May and March, with the highest value average of 6.37 for males in May and 11.91 for females in May. Oocyte diameters ranged from 0.25 to 1.88 mm, with a mean value of 0.87 mm. Absolute fecundity ranged between 2980 and 19500 eggs, with a mean of 8292±3396 eggs. Absolute fecundity and fish size (fork length and total weight) were not significantly correlated. Relative fecundity varied from 46 to 137, with a mean value of 82±22 eggs per g of total body weight. This fish is a synchronous spawner.
