Cetaceans are an essential part of marine ecosystems helping to maintain ecosystem health and integrity. Human impact is the primary threat tomarine and coastal resources; hence, understanding the conflicts between human and marine mammals is a conservationpriority. Direct hunting, fishing bycatch, collision with boats and pollutions are among the most important factors threatening the coastal habitat of cetaceans. Iran has the higher number of fishing boats and ships in the Persian Gulf that are using different gears for fishing like fixed gillnets, movable gillnets, trawl nets and purse seine for tuna fishes. These gears are known around the globe as procedures which cause mortality of the cetaceans. We studied people’s attitudes toward humpback dolphin in Mousa Bay, Persian Gulf using a likert-based questionnaire in winter 2017. 146 questionnaier were filled in three ports (Abadan, Mahshahr, and Bandar-e-Emam-Khomeini) by face to face interview. The results indicated that one of the main problems in this area is trawl nets, which has negative impacts on both dolphins and fishermen.People who were in direct contact with humpback dolphins had positive attitudeto this species.People with less financial problems, were willing to contribute to the conservation of humpback dolphin. This implies thatthe livelihood of local people is a key factor that should be considered in conservation of this species.
