Drought is a natural and complex phenomenon which happens everywhere. It has always caused huge damage, and a quick look at the statistics of the damage makes research and monitoring of drought necessary. The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of monitoring drought in Esfahan over the area of 106175 square kilometers using the normalized difference vegetation index. The data used in this study from NOAA satellite from March to September from 1992 to 2003. The data was first pre-processed, and the NDVI index of every date was calculated. In order to consider climate effect, the climate-designated map of Esfahan province prepared by Yaghmaei (2006) was used. This map has divided Esfahan province into seven climate areas. To investigate the effect of land use on NDVI index, agricultural lands were removed from climatic zones, and the amounts of Mean, Min, and Max values from the NDVI images were again calculated. In order to Esfahan Province . It is also important to note that the very high correspondence of the observed and calculated values demonstrated the accuracy of these equations.
