Absract Our country is placed in the arid semi arid area with about 250 mm precipitation in the year. One of the featuring of Iran climate is little rainfall severe fluctuations in the daily, seasonal and yearly time scale. Drought as a creeping phenomenon with high spatial extension makes huge losses every year in different parts of country economy. So, monitoring zonation of it as a matter of principle shoud be considered in sterategic planning. In recent years, many studies have been conducted in drought monitoring the various indicators are used in the field. Among the indicators that have been producted recently can be named Multivariate Standardized Drought Index (MSDI). This index is considering the combination of precipitation soil moisture conditions, so could have important application in drought monitoring. It is characterise of this index that product by combining two SPI SSI, so could assess the meteorological agricultural drought at the same time. It also has the ability to calculate for different time scales. In the present study was assessd this index its performance. For this purpose beetwen stations in the area, 28 stations with good distribution was choised after preparing montly precipitation soil moisture data, attempted toproduction SPI SSI then by combining two SPI SSI by copula method, MSDI products. In the finall stage to evaluate the MSDI performance, we will compare it with two SPI SSI. The result shows that in general, MSDI is consistent with SPI SSI in expression wet drought conditions but given the integration of information of two indicators is obtained, has higher efficiency in expreion of wet drought conditions.
