Soil organic matter content is an important indicator of soil quality, with a great impact on soil characteristics and plant growth parameters. Application of organic fertilizers or organic residues is a normal practice to amend the soil organic matter level. Organic liquid fertilizer and municipal waste compost leachate as organic amendments playing a role similar to humic acid in soils. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of an organic liquid fertilizer and a municipal waste compost leachate, in comparison with a commercial humic acid, on some physical and chemical properties of different soil textures, under corn ( Zea maize , single cross 704) cultivation. A factorial arrangement based on a completely randomized design with three replications was conducted in a research greenhouse at Isfahan University of Technology. The experimental organic amendments were: an organic liquid fertilizer extracted with 0.5 M KOH from Isfahan municipal waste compost, the municipal waste compost leachate and a processed humic acid extracted from an Iranian leonardite. The organic amendments were applied at two levels as zero and one percent of organic carbon (10 g organic carbon per Kg of soil). Three soil textures as clay loam, loam and sandy loam were examined. The loam and sandy loam textures were made up by topping pure sand particles to a clay loam sample. The results showed that organic amendment treatments increased the electrical conductivity, organic carbon and the cation exchange capacity of the soils, while decreased bulk density and water dispersible clay of the soils. Also all soil measured properties, except nitrogen content, were increased under corn cultivation as compared with the not planted soil. The organic amendments by improving the soil physical and fertility aspects, increased the plants height and stem diameter, while decreased the calcium and manganese concentration of the plants. This decrease may be due to the competition effects of some nutrients that is loaded to the soil by the amendments. Finally it could be concluded that the effects of the organic amendments on soil were different based of the soil texture and the presence of plant, while the organic liquid fertilizer and compost leachate more improved the soil quality and plant yield parameters as compared with the examined humic acid sample.
