Due to the expansion of urban areas and fast growth in urbanization in the recent decade, the tourism industry has become one of the most promising wide spread flourishing industries. In this regard, eco-tourism as one of the sub-component of sustainable tourism aims at dealing with environmental conservation, enhance the cultural integrity and creation of economic opportunities for local communities and provides tourist with spectacular opportunity to get familiar with cultural and natural attractions of different areas. Apart from the positive impacts of ecotourism, lack of appropriate planning may causenegative impacts in natural areas. Isfahan province with an area about 100 thousand square kilometers is located in the center of Iran. Having climate variability and specific natural attractions, easy access through road, railway and airborne, make Isfahan provincea specific destination for tourists. Nevertheless, potential ecotourism areas of the province have not yet thoroughly been assessed. This study tried to evaluate ecotourism potential of Isfahan province using multi-criteria evaluation method (MCE) and geographic information system (GIS). The evaluation process was based on a conceptual framework model, 6 criteria and 10 sub criteria. The data layers were weighted through Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) based on experts’ opinion and standardized by fuzzy logic. Finally these layers were combined with their corresponding weights using Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) method in order to produce the final suitability map.
