Tool abrasion is one of the major challenges in mechanized drilling because it has a direct effect on feed rate, cost and project schedule. To estimate the amount of abrasion in disc cutter, different methods are: Rock Abrasiveness Index (RAI), Cerchar Abrasiveness Index (CAI), NTNU method and Schimazek's abrasion index are used for refractive index. In this project, the aim is to estimate the amount of disk cutter incision in the Safarood Kerman water tunnel project by Schimazek's abrasion index method. These indicators include three parameters: quartz content of equivalent content (percentage), particle size of minerals (millimeters) and data from indirect tensile strength (Brazilian test). To obtain equal content of quartz group, 14 rock samples from the host stone of the tunnel at two northern and southern sections of the project were collected from samples and thin sections were studied and to investigation with mineralogy laboratory of microscopic stone. The data obtained from Brazilian test according to the speculated data were obtained. To obtain Schimazek's abrasion sintering index, statistical distribution of particle size and statistical distribution of the data obtained from indirect tensile strength, and to use in this study, samples were randomly selected. In addition to quartz of the equivalent content consisting of the percentage of each minerals in Rosiwal scale, the Schimazek's index has been estimated. Then, considering the proposed classification for different amount of Schimazek’s, the amount of incision for each section that is actually part of the tunnel is obtained qualitatively. According to the amount of incision in each cross section and the classifications, the amount of disk cutter is predicted for different zones of which their severity is estimated due to the average drilling in each width.
