Shovelsas one of the most important part of the open pit mines’ production system are the ore pass-way from mining faces to mineral processing plant. Every optimization on these machinery will directly cause the increment of the mine production. Availability and utilization is one of the most inexpensive solutions to enhance the production and of competitiveness of the mines. These purports are interwoven with reliability and maintainability of the fleet and is challenging for all the elements of production system. In current research, after literature studies, field study was carried on 10 electrical cable shovels in three models (four P H 1900, two P H 2100 and four TZ WK-12C) as two following phases:1)Maintainability modeling and downtime analysis of shovel fleet2)Analysis of the utilization of shovel fleet by a smart platform that was designed, constructed and installed in each shovel.The results of the first phase of the research indicate that all shovel repairs are completed in less than 45 hours. Shovels number SH10and SH08arethe best shovels in Sarcheshmeh Copper Mine viewpoint of maintainabilityand downtime, while the shovels numberedSH04and SH03have got the lowest score. Results of studies on 25 mechanical and 25 electrical repairs showed that almost 50% of the downtime duration is spent directly on repairs and the rest of the time is spent are respectively on: time to reach the failed shovel, delays, time to preparation, troubleshooting time and time to test. By the way, about 30% of the downtime duration is spent on repairman reaching time to machine and delays during the repairing process.Second phase of the research demonstrated that the average utilization of shovel fleet in Sarcheshmeh Copper Mine is 29% which is wide discrepancies with the other the world's largest under-spotlight mines. It is also conducted that shovels number SH09and SH07arethe best shovels in Sarcheshmeh Copper Mine viewpoint of utilization and the shovels number SH04and SH02are the most critical ones. Finally, considering the achieved results, some practical solutions were recommended to improve the utilizationand maintainability of the shovel fleet in the mine.Keywords: Shovel, Maintainabil
