Understanding the vegetation dynamics assists range managers to detect changes in rangeland vegetation. State and Transition Model (STM) has the capability to accommodate and organize available knowledge about the influence of environmental and management practices on vegetation changes especially in brittle rangeland ecosystem of arid and semi arid areas. This study aimed to develop a STM for Steppe rangelands of Isfahan and evaluates some physical and chemical properties of top soils in various vegetation conditions. Twenty seven sites with relatively similar ecological condition and various management histories were selected (nine sites with moderate status, nine sites with poor status and nine sites with degraded status) and Their cover percentage were measured using Key words : Succession, State and transition model, Stepp rangeland, Isfahan.
