The aim of this research work was production of Fe-TiC composite by mechanochemical / thermal method. Ferrotitanium, TiO 2 and graphite were used as raw materials. We tried to use the exothermic reaction between ferrotitanium and carbo to produce the heat required for reduetio of TiO 2 . Synthesi wa carried out i a tube furnace under Ar atmosphere. Phase analysis was done by XRD. Microstructure of samples were observed by optical microscope and SEM. Miling of mixed powder did not result in any reaction up to 30 hrs but heating of the samples after 5-10 hrs miling at 1200 0 c, resulted i a exothermic reaction after 5 min. XRD results showed TiC phase that means reaction was completed. Microscopic observatio of polished sample indicate fine distribution of TiC in Fe matrix. Microhardness as high as 1474 HV was obtained for the produced composites. Keywords titanium carbide, mechano chemical, composite, ferrotitanium
