In this research for first time attempt to produce mechanical seal by self propagation high temperature synthesis method (SHS). Therefore investigate possibility of produce TiC/TiB 2 , TiC-SiC, Ti 3 SiC 2 , TiC/TiB 2 -SiC, TiC-NiAl and TiB/Ti composit by SHS method, Then with using of scaning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometr (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) distinguish constructed phases. With attention to this point that the most mechanical seal is from silicon carbide compound, therefore attempt to compare tribological properties of producted samples by SHS method with SiC sample produced by sintering method. between of producted six sample, TiB/Ti and TiC-NiAl samples have close properties with sic sample (for example hardness and decreasing weight in wear test). With attention to positive result of TiB/Ti and TiC-NiAl samples in contrast of sic sample, provided mechanical seal gasket of this samples and put in afew pump for doing endorable test. Microscopic observations showes that the mechanism wear in TiB/Ti is adhesive, SiC and TiC-NiAl; abrasion, adhesion and tribochimical, and in other sample; abrasive have be in pin on disk wear test. Likewise For mechanical seal in working condition, the mechanismes of wear are abrasion, adhesion, tribochimical and corrosion wear. For evaluation corrosion did immersion test for TiB/Ti and TiC-NiAl. Samples. Resultes showes suitable resistant of this compound in acid and caustic environmentes. Collection of resultes showes that with SHS method can produce proper compound of mechanical seal gasket for application in various fluides (asid and caustic solutions).
