Since urbanization is an inevitable process, we can direct urban growth in the most suitable direction by land use planning so it can provide dwellers requirements and also maintain natural resources, areas around cities and agricultural areas. In the world, especially in developing countries, accessing to base information, preparing methods and updating them in agricultural and environmental field for planning and managing these resources by using remote sensing and GIS technologies are vital and necessary. One of the information layers particularly in studying and basis investigating is urban land use layer that can prepare recognition of quality and quantity of different land uses in the urban areas. Remote sensing data due to having extent view, reducing of cost, saving time and using different electromagnetic spectrum have high capability to prepare up to date data maps of urban land use and land cover. Different methods have been reported to prepare land use maps using satellite images that each of them has some advantages and disabilities. Isfahan city as a large city of Iran is one of the cities encountering fast growth and is the third city (after Tehran and Mashhad ) from the view point of population. Since, today, Isfahan is considered as a mega city in urban management discussions, it is necessary we plan for land use types in this area and this issue will be done by preparing an up to date land use map in a suitable scale. This map can be used by some organization such as municipal, natural resources office and others. In this research we used Aster images to prepare the land use map of Isfahan mega city. To get to this goal, some techniques (supervised and unsupervised dir=rtl 1.
