Solid waste has high moisture percentage. During the process composting, it produces considerable amount of leachate and if not proper collected, it can cause environmental problems. For example, Daily about 500 tons of garbage is processed in Isfahan Organic Fertilizer Factory and changed to compost. This process produces about 40000 liters of leachate. In Iran due to shortage of water resources and large amount of unusable lands, Land treatment method is so efficient to refine the leachate of garbage before abandonment in environment or reuse, if it incorporates with proper management. The objectives of this study were to investigate possibility of leachate remediation by land, and the effects of application of the leachate on some soil physical properties. Hence, a complete randomized block design experiment was used with 6 treatments (A: loamy sand soil, F: loamy sand soil mixed with 5% zeolite, B: loamy sand soil mixed with 10% zeolite, C: clay loam soil, D: clay loam soil mixed with 5% zeolite and E: clay loam soil mixed with 10% zeolite) and 3 replications performed in 18 PVC soil columns (60 cm in diameter and 100 cm in height) filled with treatment soils. For irrigation of column used leachate of Isfahan Organic Fertilizer Factory compost. During the research period, soil columns were irrigated 16 times at 7 days interval. Depth of irrigation water added to the soil columns was 5 cm each time. As a result of this research, Irrigation with the leachate caused reduction of the bulk density, infiltration and saturated hydraulic conductivity. The heavy metals such as Ni, Pb, Cd and Cr could not be absorbed by loamy sand soil and reduction of salinity (EC) did not show any significant difference at the 1 percent level in this soil, whereas clay loam soil had a high ability in absorption of heavy metals and reduction of salinity. In loamy sand soil, zeolite (10%) had a significant difference in absorption of heavy metals and reduction of salinity, but in clay loam soil, zeolite did not have positive effect and soil without zeolite had a better treatment.
