Recent environmental studies have focused on assessing and evaluating the role of environment in providing human well-being. Tourism areas are one of the main topics presented in the tourism industry, which has many potentials for development of the industry. Nearly 75 percent of Iran is covered by desert areas , one of which is Shahdad tourism area in Kerman, which has very high tourism potential. This study aims at evaluating the economic potential of ecotourism in desert areas of Shahdad, Kerman. Firstly, library information were collected and theoretical basics were reviewed, introducing the ecotourism potential of desert areas around Kerman Province. According to the maps of the natural complications of the area that are needed to determine the ecotourism potential, potential zonation Ecotourism was carried out in the natural areas of the Shahdad section. In addition, the economic value of natural ecosystems function ecotourism in Shahdad using contingent valuation approach was studied. To this end, the information about the variables of the research was collected by referring to the region and filled out the questionnaire from visitors with independent income, using simple random sampling method. The number of samples was studied using a sample of 150 pre-test was obtained. The various sections of the questionnaire included the economic and social information of the interviewees, individual questions and views of the visitors from the region, questions about the psychological tendencies of the people, the brochure presented from the area and the related questions, and finally the related questions to estimate the willingness to pay. The results showed that 40% of the surveyed people are expected to pay a visit to the kaluts, and the average willingness to pay a lunch for each visit is 36,000 rials and the total annual recreational value of 340,200,000 rials per year was estimated. The results show that the variables of education, the number of people, the monthly income of the family, travel on vacation, the first visit of the region, the importance of being and visiting the kaluts compared with other places, the satisfaction of visitors from the region, a number of items trends related to people familiar with the information provided in the brochure as well as the number of visits per year are the significant effect on willingness to pay. The results indicate the economic importance of the Kaluts in terms of recreational functions, with the help of which it is possible to estimate the amount of investment with economic justification for the development of tourism infrastructure in the region.
