Organic and inorganic pollutants generated by industrial activities can cause serious problem to the environment. It is essential to provide innovative and practical solutions for the environmental problems and restrictions on the establishment of landfill waste and cleanup of soil and water contamination from organic materials such as petroleum hydrocarbons which aims to improve soil quality for the optimal use of waste. In this study, the effect of the interaction of petroleum hydrocarbons and additive such as rice husk and coal ash on physical and chemical properties of oil-contaminated soils were investigated. The study was done in the Bkhtyardasht region of Isfahan province with weight pollution level (0, 2, 4%) after passing through a 2-mm sieve. Rice husk ash (RHA) and coal ash a mixture of fly ash (FA) and bottom ash (BA) at a weight ratio of 1:1 in three levels of 0, 4, 8% were mixed with contaminated and non- contaminated soils. The mixture was placed in 1 kg containers for 120 days with irrigation specified period in the incubation, and the physical and chemical characteristics were measured after wards. Oil hydrocarbon 2% increased the EC of soil but with increasing level of hydrocarbons from 2% to 4% the EC of the soil was reduced due to frequent irrigation and leaching salts. With increasing the level of the coal ash from 4% to 8% the EC of the soil increase because of dissolved salts in ash. Petroleum hydrocarbons 2% the increase of pH due to the existence of separable organic compounds containing hydrogen. But the increase level of coal ash from 4% to 8% due to the presence of sulfate salts in the structure of coal ash caused the lower pH. With increasing the level of the ash from 4% to 8% sodium absorbption ratio (SAR) decreased and soil stability increased. With increasing the luminance and petroleum hydrocarbons, dispersible clay (MDC) was significantly reduced. Particle size-distribution indicated that Petroleum hydrocarbons and coal and rice husk ash have operated in the direction of reduction of micro particles and the increase of macro particles. In general, the effect of ash and petroleum hydrocarbons on the far parameters has had a countrary effect. Atahud that petroleum hydrocarbons can reduce the suction at a turning point, increase the slope in the area of structure and increase flow of water discharge. In fact, the highest impact is on the first section of the curve or the construction zone. But the ashes have caused the reverse results, which the most impact was on the second curved or tissue area. While ashes by creating smaller pores and higher specific surface area increase the water holding capacity and the amount of available water (WHC) is drastically reduced. In general, hydrocarbons, oil, rice husk ash, and coal causes significant change in the physical and chemical propertiese of soil. Keywords: Petroleum Hydrocarbons, Rice husk ash, Coal ash.
