Eggplant with high nutritional and economic value is one of the most important vegetables, especially in Asian countries. Eggplant is a warm season crop which is sensitive to low temperatures and in non-freezing and more than zero temperatures, it is encountered to to chilling injury. Low temperature is one of the important environmental factors in agricultural restricting the fertility and distribution of plants in the world. The under cultivation plants especially, horticultural plants endure large losses due to stress conditions such as cold weather. This losses is estimated to be billions of dollars annually. Therefore, the use of methods to increase the plants resistance to stresses is essential. Salicylates and polyamines can be named as two kinds of chemicals which their effects in decreasing frostbite problem have recently been worked on. Regarding the that eggplant is sensitive to low temperatures, a study consisting of two separate experiment on Varami eggplant has done to assess the impact of salicylic acid and putrescine components in increasing resistance to cold temperature. The first experiment has been performed as a 2 x 7 factorial with completely design with four replications. The first factor includes Salicylic acid at three concentrates of 0.1, 0.5 and 1 Mmol and putrescine at three concentrates of 1, 2 and 3 Mmol along with control (distilled water) and the second factor was the application method use of hormone including hormone spray and drench fertigation. The second experiment with 7 treatments has been implemented as a completely random design with four replications. The treatments was of first experiment including Salicylic acid at concentrates of 0.5, 0.75 and 1 Mmol and putrescine at of 2, 3 and 4 Mmol along with the control (distilled water) and only with the method of sparing on shrubs. After preparing the seedlings and executing hormone treatments, the plants were placed in an incubator for 3 days at a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius. After 3 days, some indicators such as outward signs of frostbite, chlorophyll fluorescence, relative chlorophyll, chlorophyll a and b, relative water content, electrolyte leakage, soluble sugars and proline were measured. The results of both trials showed that compared to control treatments, salicylic acid and putrescine treatments increased resistance of eggplant plants to cold. Hormone salicylic acid at a concentration of 5.0 Mm in both tests has improved the eggplants plants situation to frostbite significantly in comparison with control plants in most of the factors. In this study, the higher concentrations of putrescine performed much better among all the concentrations used to increase resistance to cold eggplant plants. Generally, the effect of putrescine to increase resistance to cold eggplant plants was higher than the effect of salicylic acid and in most cases there was no difference in the mode of hormonal treatment.
