Parks and recreational resources as a means to provide people a respite from thecrowding and pollution due to industrial urbanism are essential in the human societies. In order to establish better parks and recreation areas it is necessary to systematically identify and assess the potential of available resources. Tourism, like any other industry is affected by supply and demand and a common method of tourism resource assessment is through the demand approach by conducting visitor surveys. In this method major components that contribute to the overall attractiveness of parks and lead to a satisfying experience are evaluated. In Iran, outdoor recreation demand has been estimated using interview and questionnaire. In this questionnaire, factors required in assessment of outdoor recreation demand are age, distribution, how to access, frequency and referral days, referral social patterns, occupation, education, referral motivation, stay length, access roads, recreation favorites, type of vegetation, overnight stay, access costs, users income, design, layout and recreational facilities and entry fee. After analyzing the collected questionnaires, park managers can develop their operations strategies and through better programming, planning, and marketing try to decrease influences of factors that limit people’s use of parks and recreational resources. Shiraz city has the capability to to become one of the largest tourist centers in Iran at the international level. The biggest obstacles to achieve this goal are political-administrative weaknesses, financial problems, non-specialized and inefficient management, poor infrastructure and the lack of advertisement.
