Increasing productivity is the best and the most effective way to achieve economic growth. Increase in population growth and resources scarcity limitations show the need to productivity improvement more and more. The performance efficiency of economic sectors s can be surveyed with analysis of productivity indexes. The principle goal of this research is to calculate the total factor productivity index (TFP) of laying hens’ farms and evaluate the factors affecting it’s in Isfahan province. The research method which is used in this study is documentary and survey study and a structured questionnaire was designed according to the pilot study and the literature review. Required data were collected from interviewing 70 laying hen breeders. According to the theoretical framework, factors affecting TFP can be grouped under four groups: farms characteristics, economic factors, institutional factors and farmer characteristics (individual features and managerial skills). Non parametric method and Fischer numerical index was used to measure TFP. The outputs in TFP include intact and broken egg production, manure, breeder hen and inputs consist of fed diet, energy, medicine, capital and labor. In order to identifying the factors affecting TFP, we used Spearman, Pearson, Kendall correlation coefficient, factor analysis and regression. The results show that 34% of laying farms are in the middle category of TFP with most frequency and 45% of high rank units are located in dry regions. The age and experience of managers with high rank is respectively more than 50 and 11-20 years. Also, there is no relationship between the age and the level of schooling of the managers due to the unrelated education. According to the results of linear regression, managerial skills, farm characteristics, economic decision making skill, the poultry age and the capacity of farms have the most effects on the TFP with the high R 2 (71%). The managerial skill is the one of the most important factors affecting TFP with 0/307 impact coefficient. Increasing the distance of farm from main road, has a negative effect on the TFP, per 1 kilometers increase of distance, the TFP decreases .003 unit which indicates the important role of communication and easy access to the markets. Key word : total factor productivity, Fisher index, Laying Hens, managerial skills.
