Recently, with localization of industrial centers and development of industrial activities, different wastes are generated. Production and disposal of industrial wastes in illegal ways will cause soil and water pollution. Solid waste management is a suitable method to connects industries and environment and reduce disadvantages of industrial activities on environment. This may occur by using different methods such as in site pollution prevention, waste minimization, recycling and waste reuse. The main objective of this study is assessing the type and quantity of wastes, current status of waste management and the best practical solutions for waste management in Jai industrial town, considered as one of the oldest industrial town in Isfahan province. The methodology of this study is based on the field observation, interviews and completing of questionnaires and data analysis. The Jai industrial town has a total area about 309 hectares, 528 active and 68 inactive industrial units. The most frequent industrial groups in the Jai industrial town are metals 24%, textiles 22%, foods 15%, chemicals 16%, woods 7%, electronics 6%, services 5%, and non metal 5%. A total number of 310 active industrial groups were visited and the questionnaires completed by the interview with the managers. The amounts of hazardous and non hazardous industrial wastes as well as household wastes were estimated in kg/month. The amounts of industrial wastes in the non visited industrial groups were estimated using the calculated rate of industrial waste for visited groups. The total industrial wastes in this industrial town are approximately 2398.2 tons per month. The industrial wastes consisted of 19% hazardous wastes, 17% metal, 12% organic, 12% textile, 11% plastics, 9% paper, 9% chemical, 6% mineral, 3% glass, 1% rubber, 1% wood. The proportion of wastes in the industrial groups are 31% for metals industries, 17% for food industries, 17% for each of chemical and textile industries, 9% for wood industries, 8% for non metal mineral industries, 3% for electronic industries, and 0.04% for services units. The storage of industrial wastes were done 81% by heaping in the site, 9% in the bags and gunnies, 9% in the barrels and 1% in the tanks. The wastes were collected monthly 58%, alternatively 30%, weekly 6%, daily 2%, annual 2% and each 6 month 1%. In the Jai industrial town, 73% of industrial wastes are sold for recycling or reuse, 15% disposed, 11% recycled on site and 1% incinerated.
