New composite materials have been increasingly developing during last decades. Functionally Graded Materials, FGMs, were first introduced in Japan in 1984. FGMs are characterized as inhomogeneous, but mostly isotropic materials with smooth and continuous change in their microstructure. Local buckling of rectangular, through thickness Functionally Graded Plates (FGPs) is investigated using Finite Strip Method (FSM) based on In comparison with Finite Element Method (FEM), FSM converges faster and is more efficient and economical for numerical treatment of rectangular plates. FSM is also applicable in analyzing plate problems that have no exact solution due to their complicated boundary conditions.
