In this project, a series of novel chiral and biodegradable polyamides (PA)s based on L -leucine amino acid, were synthesized. For this purpose at first (2S)-5-[4-(4-methyl-2-phthalimidylpenthanoylamino)benzoylamino]isophthalic acid was prepared in five steps. Polymers were prepared from condensation reaction of mentioned diacid with different diisocyanates in common organic solvents and molten ionic liquid (MIL) in the presence of dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL) as a catalyst and without any catalyst by two different methods: conventional heating and microwave irradiation methods. It seemed that in the presence of ionic liquid, better results were obtained. High dielectric property of IL that caused of rapid absorbtion of microwave irradiation and accordingly, increase rate of the reaction. In addition to these advantages, it is good replacement for toxic common volatile solvents. The structures of monomer and polymers were confirmed by different techniques such as FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1 H-NMR, specific rotation and elemental analysis. Thermal properties of new PAs were evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry.
