Along with the population growth, problems of urbanization force people to search for solitude in nature. Therefore the number of tourists in national parks and protected areas is increasing. Since conservation and ecotourism could be two effective partners in national parks and protected areas, promoting tourism is a strategy for financial autonomy, support for conservation and facilitate management of the protected areas. The relationship between protected areas and ecotourism is as old as the history of establishment of these areas. Although this relationship is complex and sometimes contradictory, the tourism has had an important role in the creation and management of protected areas. However, it should be noted that implementation of tourism activities without planning and estimating the ecological potential of the region could negatively affect tourist`s experiences and more importantly, decrease the quality of protected areas. Therefore, determining the appropriate sites for tourism development based on the ecological potential of the areas could be one of the most effective ways to reduce the negative impacts of tourism in protected areas. The current study was conducted in Palang Dareh protected area, using a conceptual model and multi-criteria assessment methods such as weighted linear combination (WLC), Boolean logic and analytic network process (ANP) to determine suitable areas for establishment of a tourist village. Palang Darreh protected area is located in the south-western of Qom province. The criteria used for allocation of the tourist village were landscape, water resources, topography, environmental sensitivity, rock and soil and the accessibility to the region. Thirteen sub-criteria were considered and the map of each criterion was produced, using geographic information system (GIS). Experts` opinion was used to prepare a network of the criteria and sub-criteria and ANP was used for ranking. The two criteria with the highest score were water resources and topography. All the layers were standardized with Boolean and fuzzy models, the layers were combined using WLC and Boolean methods and land suitability for establishing a tourist village was investigated. Boolean method found a small part of the region suitable for this purpose. In contrast, WLC selected larger areas and the results could also be Keywords: Boolean logic, fuzzy logic, GIS, multi-criteria analysis, network analysis process, weighted linear combination.
