According to control the implementation of communication systems, with respect to IEEE standard committee and need to improve wireless communications in our country, the study of fixed wireless communications standards seems to be necessary. In this thesis we study IEEE 802.16 and in detail, we study the OFDM Physical Layer of IEEE 802.16_2004. The receiver and transmitter model is simulated in MATLAB, and is ready for implement. In this model, all blocks, contain the scrambler, FEC, adaptive modulation and IFFT, is simulated based on the standard document, published in 2004. Besides the transmitter, main block of receiver, containing the inverse line, and equalizer for compensation of the multipath channels, is simulated. The synchronization, specialize in symbol timing synchronization in this standard, is another subjects of this thesis. Talk about all kinds of synchronization and their error effects on data detection, study about purposed methods, like ML estimation or computation of correlation function and cross correlation function, for symbol timing synchronization and purposes a new method with less computation and more accuracy, are inserted in this report.
