In this research controlled release of proteins from Fe 3 O 4 /chitosan nanoparticles (CS) NP exposed to alternate magnetic field is reported. Fe 3 O 4 /CS NP was synthesized using tri poly phosphate (TPP) molecules as a cross linker reagent. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was used as a model protein and its controlled release studied by varying the frequency of alternate magnetic field. The results showed successful coating of CS and BSA on Fe 3 O 4 NP with an average diameter of 50 nm. Intermolecular interactions of TPP with CS and BSA were confirmed by FTIR spectra. Application of low-frequency alternating magnetic fields to such magnetic CS NP enhanced protein release properties in which external magnetic fields may “switch on” unloading of these NP. It is concluded that enhanced BSA release from NP exposed to alternate magnetic field is a promising way for achieving both targeted delivery and controlled release of proteins.
